In a time of intense partisanship, one thing liberals and conservatives should agree on is that President Barack Obama’s strategy against the Islamic State (ISIS) is not working, says former spokesman to the United Nations Richard Grenell.

“Right now, we’re bombing from the air and we don’t even know what we’re bombing because intelligence is old,” Grenell said Thursday on Fox News Channel’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto.”

“What liberal thinks that’s a compassionate idea to randomly bomb? What conservative thinks that’s a really good idea to waste bombs and overspend?”

Grenell, a Republican, found agreement from Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a Hawaii Democrat, who told CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” on Thursday that the United States will be at risk if it doesn’t learn from its past mistakes in the Middle East.

She said the mixed messages from the Obama administration are giving the public a lack of confidence.

Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have downplayed the concerns, with Obama saying the media overhypes the threat of ISIS.

Meanwhile, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified Thursday the threat is real, and FBI Director James Comey says terror probes are underway in all 50 states.

Grenell said Obama is using a political campaign tactic of not addressing what the enemy is saying, but that won’t work with a national security threat.

“When you’re the commander in chief, you have to be a national security leader,” he said.
